TNT still has at least one scripted show still going, and that series—The Lazarus Project—feels like a cross between Groundhog Day and a sci-fi thriller. I’m sold.

The Lazarus Project is actually a British program that aired on Sky Max about a year ago. (This may explain why TNT is now airing it—since the network has resolutely gotten out of the business of creating their own scripted programming, they’d have to license shows from elsewhere if they want anything in that lane.) In it, Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Black Mirror) stars as George, a man who finds out he remembers when the world has been rewound and then gets caught up in an organization that aims to protect humanity, no matter what the cost.
Here’s the show’s official synopsis:
George is the latest recruit to The Lazarus Project – a secret organization that has harnessed the ability to turn back time whenever the world is at the threat of extinction. George and his colleagues are the few people on Earth with the ability to remember the events that are undone when time goes back. But when a freak accident harms someone close to George, Lazarus won’t let him turn back time to undo it unless there is the threat of global extinction. Now George must choose to stay loyal or go rogue as he faces the question: if you had the power to re-write your past, what would you sacrifice to do it?
In addition to Essiedu the show stars Anjli Mohindra (The Sarah Jane Adventures, The Peripheral) as Archie, Rudi Dharmalingam as Shiv, Charly Clive as Sarah, Caroline Quentin as Elisabeth ‘Wes’ Wesley, Tom Burke as Rebrov, Brian Gleeson as Ross, Vinette Robinson as Janet, and Alec Utgoff as Rudy.
The first season of The Lazarus Project airs on TNT starting on June 4, 2023. And if you’re a fan of the show, you’re in luck: Sky has already ordered a second season of the show, which hopefully means it will make its way across the pond at some point as well.
